What is Tramadol?

Tramadol is a very effective painkiller medication that is used for relieving moderate to severe acute pain caused by various conditions and factors. When used in its extended release form, Tramadol also helps relieve chronic pain conditions that require prolonged analgesic effects around the clock. Tramadol makes part of the drug class called opioids, which are synthetic derivatives of natural narcotic pain relievers opiates, providing the same analgesic effects but without the narcotic side effects like hallucination, loss of awareness, drowsiness and so on.

What Tramadol is used for?

Tramadol is used for relieving moderate to severe pain cause by different factors. It could be an injury, rupture or other impact to muscles, joints or bones. Neurological pain can also be relieved with Tramadol. The list of conditions Tramadol is applied in is very long because of the universal nature the drug possesses. Because Tramadol blocks the nervous pain signals transmitted to the brain it doesn't matter what is the actual cause of pain.

Are there any precautions I should follow when using Tramadol?

Like any prescription medication Tramadol has certain safety measure that should be taken before you use the drug. In order to minimize the risk of experiencing side effects you have to make sure you didn't use any of the following substances before taking Tramadol:

• alcohol
• recreational drugs
• other painkiller medications
• sedatives and tranquilizers
• antidepressants and drugs for treating anxiety
• medications for treating mental illness

Certain medical conditions require the dosage of Tramadol to be adjusted. So make sure to inform your doctor if you have any of the following:

• stomach disorder
• history of mental illness, depression or anxiety disorder

• metabolic disorders
• history of seizure disorders

How Tramadol should be taken?

Take Tramadol exactly as indicated in your prescription label. Do not exceed the prescribed dosage or take the drug for a longer period of time. Tramadol can be taken with and without food at any time, however it is recommended to take the drug around the same time each day if you are prescribed with a prolonged course in order to make sure that the doses aren't missed. Do not chew or crush the tablet, swallow it as a hole with a full glass of water.

Are there any side effects to be expected with Tramadol.

Like any prescription medication Tramadol has a list of side effects that may occur during its use. The side effects are quite rare and usually wear off with time, however there's still a risk of experiencing adverse effects with Tramadol. Some side effects that were reported with the use of Tramadol include:

• dizziness, weakness or drowsiness
• lack of appetite, nausea or vomiting
• vision problems
• sleep disorders
• flushing

There may be serious side effects that require you to stop taking Tramadol and contact your doctor immediately:

• seizures
• skin rash
• weak pulse, breathing problems
• hallucinations, fever, racing heartbeat, agitation or fainting
